Lynne Bluff – BSc Nursing degree (Wits)

Lynne has a BSc Nursing degree from Wits University. Once qualified she loved working in the Medical Casualty at the JHB Hospital – it gave her a good grounding in being able to work under extreme pressure situations. But this area was not her first love, so she moved along to the maternity arena at a private JHB hospital.She worked in the prem nursery – revolutionising how the unit was run and converting it to a family centered unit where the parents could be involved with the premature or high-risk infants. What an amazing time it was!
Since her student days, her heart was set on teaching childbirth education classes but for her it was important to have the practical experience of going through her own pregnancy and birth in order to teach in a realistic and practical way. So she continued to work to this end. Once she had experienced pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding for herself, she started up her own childbirth education practice.
It certainly has been an amazing journey from then. She was part of the first group of South Africans who did the ICEA Internationally certified childbirth educator course becoming certified in 1992. Running her own practice, starting the Childbirth Educators Professional Forum Roadshows, Professional Forum magazine as well as the consumer annual publication – Expectant Mothers Guide.
Her latest “baby” has been launching the Hand in Hand Learning Courses for professionals – it has been a journey all of its own – there are now 8 courses available.
Lynne has certainly been on her own journey of learning through these courses – she just loves keeping updated and learning new things!!
