Carina is passionate about occupational therapy, with extensive experience in the paediatric field. She has a keen interest in the Ayres Sensory Integration® Framework of intervention. Teenagers and adults with sensory processing difficulties have been a special area of interest over the past twenty years. She is adept at diagnosing sensory related difficulties and is a skilled clinician. She attempts to bring forth an empathetic and professional attitude in providing the best treatment possible. She has been the owner of a private practice for 23 years and has extensive experience in all aspects of managing a practice in South Africa.
Carina was on the South African Institute for Sensory Integration (SAISI) Board (2019 – 2023). This a voluntary service, giving back to the profession. She has been lecturing with the South African Institute for Sensory Integration (SAISI) since 1998 and has been a treatment course lecturer during this time. She served as Head of the Treatment Course Faculty from 2019 to 2023. In this role the courses need to adhere to the latest research in the field and the faculty head is responsible for attending courses and updating teaching material, with the lecturing team on a yearly basis. She is a mentor, assisting post-graduate trainee’s writing case protocols as pre-course work, for the treatment course and is a marker of protocol submissions. Mentoring and marking of the Fidelity Measure post-course work is also part of my responsibilities as a SAISI lecturer.
Carina accepted the portfolio as SAISI Course Coordinator for SAISI in 2020. SAISI started training therapists in the administration and interpretation of the EASI in 2022. She therefore had to organise and facilitate the effective implementation of the EASI training in collaboration with CLASI in South Africa. This role included facilitating the logistics of 6 new courses to accommodate our fully ASI® trained therapists.
